The brain is weary and all worded out.
Let me tell you a story via videos.
Wrath of winter
While the northern states of Australia bake in record-breaking temperatures of mid-30's (it is officially still winter here!), those of us in the south are being buffetted by three days of gale-force winds.The best place to be is inside, out of the wind. Which is right where I have been - this afternoon. But this morning I had to go into town and my poor little car just about got blown off the road.
Feels like pasta weather, so dinner tonight will be roast pumpkin pasta with walnut, sage and burnt butter sauce.
Broken wine glasses
Stacy recently posted a mandala that caught my attention. Combined with the imagery of her words, it has stuck in my mind this past week. And then I found this poem. It jumped out at me, demanded my attention and resonated in some way. I wonder what you make of it?
Why Aren't We Screaming Drunks?
The sun once glimpsed God's true nature
And has never been the same.
Thus that radiant sphere
Constantly pours its energy
Upon this earth
As does God from behind
The veil.
With a wonderful God like that
Why isn't everyone a screaming drunk?
Hafiz's guess is this:
Any thought that you are better or less
Than another
Quickly
Breaks the wine
Glass.

Art Attack: Visual storyboards
Moving through the questions.Digital collage by Kel, © 2009
Have you heard of visionboards, dreamboards, treasure mapping? All names used to describe the activity of creating a collage to set goals, intentions, or visually explore an issue or question in your life. I use them a lot, and call them Visual Storyboards. Probably a throwback to my magazine editing days. Here's a few basic how-to hints.
There's the old fashioned rip'n'stick version. Grab a pile of magazines, a sheet of paper or cardboard, some glue, and if you must, some scissors. Hold in mind your goals, or the issue or question you are currently pondering. Flick through the magazines and rip out any images or words that catch your attention. Don't edit. Simply flip and rip. Again, without thinking too much, arrange the words and images on your page in a way that is visually appealing to you. Stick them down. On the back write the date and give your storyboard a name. Put your storyboard somewhere you will see it everyday.
If you're cluey with programs like photoshop, illustrator etc you can create a digital version. But there's a new user-friendly website that offers another way. Polyvore. I first saw this site months ago, but it seemed to be all about fashion and interior design. On a second look, I've disovered it's a great way to create visual storyboards digitally.
Same how-to hints apply. Of course, if you're doing this as a goal setting or solution seeking exercise, hold in mind your goals or questions while creating your story board. Grab any image or text that jumps out at you and place them on the screen in a way that is visually appealing to you. Name it and view it regularly.
See what turns up.
~~~
This is my first creation using polyvore. A nice bonus is you can also add a soundtrack to play with it. I guess that means it would be a visual/aural storyboard.
After choosing the soundtrack based purely on the CD cover, which also features in my story board, I am blown away on discovering the lyrics to this song.
May It Be
May it be an evening star
Shines down upon you
May it be when darkness falls
Your heart will be true
You walk a lonely road
Oh, how far you are from home
Mornie utúlië (darkness has come)
Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantië (darkness has fallen)
A promise lives within you now
May it be shadows call
Will fly away
May it be your journey on
To light the day
When the night is overcome
You may rise to find the sun
Mornie utúlië (darkness has come)
Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantië (darkness has fallen)
A promise lives within you now
A promise lives within you now
Believe and you will find your way . . . indeed.
As always, if you have a go and would like to share, drop a comment below to let us know you just had an art attack.
LogHenge: completed
This weekend we finished the LogHenge project. Well, the construction of it anyhow. Next I will write some reflection cards to be used as a seasonal meditative process.
Art Attack: find a face
Inspired by WTF@ce this month's art attack challenge is to capture a photo of an everyday object that "looks" back at you. Where can you see a face?
Visual meditation
To walk on water is not normal. It takes faith.
Is there something you're willing to get wet feet for?
This is another one of my visual creative prompts being featured
on the prompt generator at Creativity Portal for August 13 (USA time).
LogHenge: foundations
Remember that bulk delivery of sawmill offcuts . . . We had the perfect spot out in the paddock to build LogHenge, a circle of logs based on a combination of compass points and solstice, equinox points. A focal point for bonfires, marshmallow toasting and potato roasting.
A few weeks ago, a visiting friend helped Mr X work out the trigonometry, with a combination of high tech (GPS) and low tech (string) and mark them with stakes.
Now we have a huge pile of the perfect material and construction has begun.
Let me tell you, these babies weigh a tonne!
Selecting the log ends, loading them onto and off the tractor, and positioning them in place has all taken longer than I thought it would.
The tractor, and Mr X's muscles have been very handy.
The cardinal points [Nth, Sth, East, West] were laid out first with taller logs, and smaller ones will fill in around the circle.
At this stage we think the solstice points will have some sculpture tops put on them. I had a basic go at it on my own yesterday.
But will wait for the weekend, and Mr X's strength, to finish the circle and build up the sculpture points.
Creative weekend activities
Busy weekend this one full of "creative" stuff like . . .
creative movement:
Bush Dance - you might imagine something like this
when in reality it's more like this
creative books:
Exhibition opening - for artist books - not this gallery or expo, but very similar
creative ways to stock the pantry:
Raffle win - scored a big box of fresh fruit and veggies from a raffle to support the music/arts department of a local school
creative use of timber offcuts:
Next stage of building our loghenge is underway this afternoon . . .
What have you created this weekend?
